
The capital of Slovenia lies in the centre of the country & counts wide 200,000 inhabitants. Because of its central position the city is already more than 3000 years an important traffic junction. In former days the city was called Luvigana but after the First World War the city changed his name into ‘Ljubljana’.
Through this city flows the Ljubljanica where you can make romantic walks in the evening. In the original, and the new name of the city, you find the word Ljubezen what means love.
A glorious picture along the bank of the Ljubljanica, at the back you see the baroque Franciscus church.
The old town part is worth a walk. The Preseren square was called after the poem writer, France Preseren. On the square you can admire a monument of him. Their cultural holiday is named after him. It takes place each year on February the 8th. Their also stand on this square & in other parts of the city a lot of buildings in Jugendstil. Other important squares are the Vodnik square, congress square & square of the republic.
Two splendid bridges, which cross the Ljubljanica, are ` the three bridges & the dragon bridge. The castle of Ljubljana is called sometimes the Slovenian acropolis of the city. On top of the hill, with a big forest, you have a splendid panorama of the city. In the castle there are daily visits possible. You also find a historical & archaeological museum.
Beside this museum there are numerous other museums which you can visit. The largest museum of the country is the national museum where you can admire archaeological & historical-cultural collections. The architecture museum, Tivoli gallery & the urban museum are other more known museums.
