Slovenia is developping more and more as a good sportcountry.
The national footbal team suprised everyone by getting a place on the European championship 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In the World championship of 2010 in South-Africa,Slovenia will participate. In the qualification games they ended second in their group & managed to elemenate Russia.
After 5 participations on the Olympic summergames , they have won 15 medals. One of the winning atlete is the shooter Rajmond Debevec who won 1 golden medal and one bronze medal. He is also the world and Olympic recordholder on the 50 metre.
The sailor Vasilij Zbogar won the silver and bronze medal.
On the Olympic wintergames the slovenian participants got 4 bronze medals.
Cycling is getting more and more popular. Andrey Hauptman suprised on the World Championship 2001 by finishing on the 3rd place for men elite. Janez Brajkovic was the best one on the World championship under 23 in 2004.
The most popular women in sports from Slovenia are Sara Isakovic who won
the silver medal swimming on the olympic games of 2008 and Lucija Polavder who won a bronze medal in Bejijng.
